Confirming Resonance in Three Transiting Systems

چکیده

Abstract Although resonant planets have orbital periods near commensurability, resonance is also dictated by other factors, such as the planets’ eccentricities and masses, therefore must be confirmed through a study of system’s dynamics. Here, we perform for five multiplanet systems: Kepler-226, Kepler-254, Kepler-363, Kepler-1542, K2-32. For each system, run suite N -body simulations that span full parameter space consistent with constrained planetary properties. We stability system look resonances based on libration critical angles. find strong evidence two-body in system; confirm 3:2 between Kepler-226c Kepler-226d, Kepler-254c Kepler-254d, three-body 1:2:3 chain three Kepler-363. explore dynamical history two these systems most likely formed without migration. Migration leads to angle, but angles circulate both Kepler-254 Applying our methods additional near-resonant could help us identify which are truly or nonresonant require follow-up analysis.

What to Expect from Transiting Multiplanet Systems

So far radial velocity (RV) measurements have discovered ∼ 25 stars to host multiple planets. The statistics imply that many of the known hosts of transiting planets should have additional planets, yet none have been solidly detected. They will be soon, via complementary search methods of RV, transit-time variations (TTV) of the known planet, and transits of the additional planet. When they are...

Spectroscopic Studies of Transiting Planetary Systems

As of December 2007, radial velocity measurements and planetary transit surveys for nearby stars have already identified more than 250 planets around other stars. These “extrasolar planets” opened a new field of astronomy in the past decade. The discovery of many extrasolar planets have revealed the existence of exotic planets such as “hot Jupiters” and “eccentric planets,” showing the diversit...

Empirical evidence for tidal evolution in transiting planetary systems

Most transiting planets orbit very close to their parent star, causing strong tidal forces between the two bodies. Tidal interaction can modify the dynamics of the system through orbital alignment, circularisation, synchronisation, and orbital decay by exchange of angular moment. Evidence for tidal circularisation in close-in giant planet is well-known. Here we review the evidence for excess ro...
